Terms of use
Witnessory's public view, its site checker and the checker's API are free to use, by people and by software, on these terms.
What the results are
- A result is a measurement at one time from one place: what a server answered when it was checked. It is not a certification, an audit or advice, and a server can change at any time.
- Results are signed so that anyone can verify they were not altered. A verified result still only says what was observed.
Fair use
- Use the API within its published limits (20 new checks an hour from one address; results reused for 10 minutes). Over a limit, the API says so and when to try again.
- Do not use the checker to attack, overload or probe anyone's systems, or to get around its limits.
- The operator of a site can ask for it not to be checked: write to
security@witnessory.org.
Quoting and reusing
You may quote figures from the view and from the checker, including commercially, if you name Witnessory as the source and say when the figures were measured (each view and result carries its time and a hash that names it).
No warranty
The services are provided as they are, without warranty of any kind, and may change, be limited or stop. Witnessory is not liable for decisions made on the strength of a result.
Probes
Hosting a probe has its own terms: hosting a probe.
